Encountering Ourselves and Each Other
Through the Dramatic Arts and Biography
Presented by Laurie Portocarrero
and supported by Susan Kurz
At this point in evolution, we live in a world of increasing separation, hardening, disconnection from each other and ourselves.
We long for wholeness, healing, connection, human relationship that nourishes and inspires, but how do we get there?
The adversarial forces would have us imprisoned entirely in that disconnection, either reacting out of fear and self-doubt and criticism and need for power; or wafting away in self-absorption and inflated personal ego.
What if we seek the balance between the two poles, the middle between the two extremes, the free space between me and the Other?
Out of the realm of the dramatic arts comes one way of working – what if we identify and change the quality of movement with which we meet the world? What if we shift our tone or our inner gesture to allow us to better listen to / receive the Other, or to the world around us, or to ourselves?
This conference proposes, through biography exercises and the embodied dramatic arts tools of movement and drama and speech, to work on the story and image of that space between.
